School History

The Infant School opened in September 1970 and quickly grew to six classes, two for each year group. The Junior School was opened three years later to create the full primary provision between the two schools.

The school is a one storey building surrounded by spacious grassed areas and playground, providing ample space for many varied outdoor activities. The school has large and low-level play equipment, which is enjoyed by all of our children at break times.

The environmental development of our school grounds is ongoing. Parents have provided new outdoor play equipment. Children, parents and staff have planted trees, shrubs and bulbs. Our Quiet Area provides an area where children can find a peaceful space among the trees to relax during break times. We continually seek ways of using the outdoor environment to enhance the children’s learning making it meaningful and fun.

The original Infant School building has been enhanced through the creation of a multi-purpose room in the centre of the building (by covering the courtyard) and the installing of covered areas, especially for the Early Years classrooms which enables outside learning to be available all year round, whatever the weather.

Crossways Infant School became part of The Crossways Schools Federation along with Crossways Junior School in September 2012.  The aim of the Federation is to create one seamless learning journey for children whilst maintaining the strengths and individual identities of the two schools.
